What Need Is God Showing Us?
Political and socioeconomic upheavals in Ecuador have made life difficult for poor people in that country. Previous military governments were repressive and abusive, and the road to democracy has been a hard one. Unemployment and under-employment are major problems, and the country also suffers from high levels of crime, domestic violence, and alcoholism, as well as inadequate protection for children.
What Is God Telling Us to Do?
Many children in Guayaquil, Ecuador’s largest city, suffer from poor nutrition, lack of adequate medical care, and abuse. These children need a safe environment where they can feel loved and cared for, and where they can find healing for the abuse and neglect they have experienced at home or on the streets.
How Are We Doing What God Is Asking?
The Prince of Peace Children’s Home cares for at-risk children in Guayaquil. Sixty children live in the home and receive food, shelter, education, counseling, and love from dedicated house parents, teachers, and counselors. Prince of Peace also ensures that the children get proper medical attention.
Who Is Our Partner?
The Prince of Peace Foundation was established in 1983 as a center of protection for defenseless and at-risk boys and girls. The ministry originally focused on reaching out to street children. That focus has shifted over the years, and although street children are still welcomed, the home’s staff is now mainly concerned with providing a safe place for abused and neglected children in general. The foundation provides for children who range in age from six to twelve.
