Founding Our Faith
As I spoke on Sunday I was not able to expand on the idea of Founding our Faith as much as I would have liked to, so I will do that here!
What is a foundry:
A foundry is a factory that produces metal castings. Metals are cast into shapes by melting them into a liquid, pouring the metal into a mold, and removing the mold material after the metal has solidified as it cools.
That is a lot like Christ in that he takes our raw un-saved selves, and upon the in-pouring of his Holy Spirit, melts down our sinful selves and pours our raw selves into the mold of his character - his like-ness.
At that point, our lives are at the beginnings of being founded in Christ. Now, just like that raw metal that is cast into a shape, it needs to be worked with, worked on and worked into the final shape - so do we!
That is where the founding in 4 directions takes shape in our lives.
If you will remember those directions, they were:
UPWARD - Loving and worshipping ONE Lord with all or our;
Heart - Loving God through your unique calling
Soul - Loving God with our eternal future
Mind - Loving God in and with all of our thoughts
Strength - Love God with your whole body
Key Scripture is Mark 12:28-30
OUTWARD - Loving our neighbors as ourselves;
Story - understanding how you and your neighbor’s story fits into God’s grand narrative
Search - finding people of peace
Serve - give hospitality
Strengthen - meet the needs
Share - tell about the Good News
Send - empower more disciples
Key Scripture is Mark 12:31
INWARD - Loving one another through;
Devotion - Give your time, talent and treasure
Learning - Grow in knowledge of God and His word
Fellowship - Gather with others
Eating - Graze with new friends
Prayer - Get on your knees
Giving/Sharing - Generosity is your new livelyhood
Key Scripture is Acts 2:42-45
ONWARD - Loving Mission to the ends of the earth;
Go - get moving
Make - do something
Baptize - Display your faith
Teach - tell them and do it
Key Scripture is Matthew 28:18-20
Remember - being founded in your faith takes commitment, dedication and discipline. That is why we are called Disciples - people who are under the discipline of Jesus. Practice your discipline; tell others; demonstrate your discipline and above all, love God and one another. People learn by Hearing, Observing and Practicing. Help spread the vision of Christ Community Church and the Kingdom of God through living our the second part of our vision pathway - living UPWARD, OUTWARD, INWARD AND ONWARD.
